Swarmfest 2009 is coming to the Complex on June 28-30. SwarmFest, the leading international conference to advance agent-based modeling, is an informal and interdisciplinary reunion for anyone interested in advancing the use of agent-based modeling systems. Its a discussion-based, problem-question oriented, workshop-like environment that is also non-denominational: users of Repast, NetLogo and even FORTRAN are welcome. Prior SWARMFests were held in Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, DePaul University, Notre Dame, Torino, Italy and the University of Michigan.

swarm-logo.jpgSwarmFest is an excellent place to present new or tentative results, talk about methodological issues, and meet new collaborators. SwarmFest also serves as a users conference for Swarm; we collect input from users and potential users to set priorities for development, support, and other Swarm Development Group activities.

The Swarm Development Group (SDG) was founded in September 1999 as a private, not-for-profit [501(c)(3)] organization to support the development of the Swarm Simulation System (Swarm) and the interests of the group members. The purposes of the SDG are to:

  1. Advance the state-of-the-art in multi agent based simulation through the continued advancement of the Swarm Simulation System and support of the Swarm user community
  2. Promote the free interchange of multi agent based simulations among computing specialists and the public
  3. Develop and maintain the integrity and competence of individuals engaged in the practice of agent-based simulation.

For more information on SWARM, visit its wiki. The wiki also has an overview of agent-based modeling from early work at the Santa Fe Institute. Registration for the conference is available on-line. The Sage Inn will be the conference hotel with rooms available at a conference rate until May 27.

The Call for Abstracts is also open until May 1, 2009. Abstracts should be submitted as a one page .pdf, Arial 10 font and emailed to swarmfest09@swarm.org . Decisions on acceptance will be made on a rolling basis, with decisions on submissions made on May 1 returned by May 6, 2009.
